Honor the past. Celebrate the future.

On January 24, 1826, the Mississippi Legislature approved a charter for an institution christened Hampstead Academy. Located on a five-acre tract carved out of the Mississippi frontier, the academy began offering college-level work, quickly earning a reputation for academic rigor.

In 1830, the legislature renamed the institution Mississippi College. In 1831, the first college degrees ever presented in the state of Mississippi were awarded to proud graduates of MC.

Today, nearly 200 years since the first students stepped foot on its historic campus, MC continues to make history.
